The Interior Design Philosophy Of Richard Mishaan Design

Richard Mishaan Design is a New York City interior design company. It was founded in 1991 by its owner, Richard Mishaan. Over the years he has become one of the top interior designers in New York as he brings an eye for design that can combine seemingly disparate pieces into a room that is both surprising and elegant to behold. At Richard Mishaan Design he uses bold colors and patterns and vintage pieces that are unique and a reflection of the owner of the room.

Richard Mishaan Design has been featured in many publications such as Interior Design, Elle Décor, and Architectural Digest. Richard Mishaan has also published a few coffee table books showcasing his work and interior designing philosophy including, “Artfully Modern” and “Modern Luxury“. In addition to decorating client’s homes he was also responsible for the interior designs of iconic places such as the Trump World Towers and the Shelburne Hotel.

It was in Columbia that Richard Mishaan was born. He moved to New York in 1978 and attended New York University which is where he earned his BA. He is also a graduate of Columbia University School of Architecture. Before founding Richard Mishaan Design, Richard worked at the offices of the notable designer Philip Johnson.

The one thing that isn’t ever found in a Richard Mishaan Design decoration is minimalism. He makes excellent use of bright colors, variety, and objects in the room that are both functional and pleasurable for the occupants of the room. At Richard Mishaan Design he uses handmore porcelain objects, decorative art, silks, and velvets in order to create a room that is inviting and surprising.

Another hallmark of Richard Mishaan Design is that he doesn’t use things just because they are expensive. He says it all about having a creative eye and not how much money is spent that truly makes a great room.
